Today we depart for our overnight flight to San Paulo, Brazil.

Upon arrival we will be greeted by your Perillo Tours representative and transfer by your private deluxe motor coach to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to help adjust to your new time zone. Dinner and overnight accommodations at your hotel.                  (D.)

After breakfast we depart for our 6 hour Jewish Heritage tour. Congregação Israelita Paulista (C.I.P.), founded by German Jews, holds Conservative and Reform services and has the largest synagogue membership in Sao Paulo. The congregation has a well-organized library, School, and facilities in two locations in Sao Paulo, one of them dedicated to Jewish studies. It also maintains a youth department, strong relations with a Zionist youth movement (Chazit Hanoar), a Jewish Boy Scout group, and a children's home. The congregation offers lectures, courses, and organizes frequent exhibits and other cultural activities. We will visit theses sights and organization to better understand our Jewry history in Brazil. After return to our hotel for our included dinner and overnight accommodations (B.D.)

After breakfast we depart for the airport for our flight to Rio De Janeiro. Upon arrival we will transfer to our hotel the rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight at our hotel.                       (B.D.) 

Rio de Janeiro is also called the “Marvelous City”. Located by the Atlantic Ocean, golden beaches adorn its shores backed with lush mountains. Enjoy life like the “cariocas” whose charisma is contagious.  Dance to the rhythms of samba and old-school “bossa nova”, sip on a caipirinha, and appreciate the incredibly diverse architecture. Visit iconic landmarks like Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain, sail around Guanabara Bay, or learn about history and art at one of city’s many museums.

We drive to Rio’s downtown area for our city tour. Walk along the cobblestone streets in old Rio as we appreciate the beautiful architecture. See the National Library, the Municipal Theatre, the Candelaria Church, and the Cultural Center. Then, step inside the Metropolitan Cathedral and appreciate its unique architecture and beautiful interior with floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows. Afterwards, drive to the Urca neighborhood where we will take two glass cable cars and appreciate the beautiful lush views surrounding the iconic Sugar Loaf Mountain. From the top, see the spectacular views of Rio de Janeiro.**Remark: Due to traffic in downtown Rio, the itinerary and sites visited are subject to change. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight accommodations.   (B.D.)

After breakfast we depart our hotel and drive to Rio’s downtown area for our Jewish tour. Enjoy the rest of the day with your guide and explore the other landmarks that spark your interest. 

A tour in Rio de Janeiro exclusively of Jewish interest will include: 

Visit the Grand Temple  (First  building made with the purpose of becoming a synagogue – 1932)  

Visit the Jewish Museum (Some archeological items  and  artifacts brought by immigrants)  

Visit to the Yitzchak Rabin memorial square, Visit the Hans Stern belvedere, Visit to the liberal  Synagogue ARI, Visit to CIB – a Jewish sports and social club, Visit Kehilat Yaakov (Orthodox Synagogue in Copacabana) we will also drive by and see Beth-El (Sephardic Synagogue in Copacabana), Shell Guemilut Chassadim (oldest Congregation in Rio), Midrash (Jewish Cultural Center in Leblon), Chabad Lubavitch synagogue in Leblon, Chaim Waitzman square in Laranjeiras, Some Jewish schools , monuments and other places of Jewish interest. The location of the former Jewish neighborhood. Return to our Hotel for dinner and overnight.                         (B.D.) 

Note: Kosher meal may be obtained.at CIB or Lubavitch synagogue (upon confirmation). The above places cannot be visited during Local Holidays and Jewish holidays. The Synagogues cannot be visited after 4 pm during the week. They are closed on weekends with exception of the Grand Temple.

Recife is a large cosmopolitan city filled with shiny high-rise buildings, a historical center, shopping malls and great art, entertainment, and restaurants. Visit the nearby beaches, the natural pools, or escape to Olinda, its artsy counterpart. Immerse in colonial splendor and artistic culture as you wander around the cobblestone streets in the UNESCO World Heritage site. Appreciate the turquoise waters, palm trees, and pastel colored buildings as you discover its galleries, artisan workshops, churches, and museums.

The contemporary immigration of Jews from Eastern Europe to Recife started in the 1910s, and in 1910 a synagogue was established in a private house. The Centro Israelita de Pernambuco and the local Ídishe Shul were founded in 1918. Synagoga Israelita da Boa Vista and the Jewish cemetery were created in 1927. In 1930 Sephardic immigrants built their synagogue. The Jewish community was very active with a network of institutions, including six schools, the assistance organization Relief, a sports club, a library, a Yiddish theater group, youth and Zionist groups, and women organizations such as WIZO and Pioneiras. The community, which reached a population of 1,600, lived mostly in the neighborhoods of Boa Viagem and Boa Vista. 

The Historic Jewish Archive of Pernambuco was founded. In 1994 the Association for the Restoration of Jewish Memory in the Americas was established and in 2000 the building where the synagogue Kahal Kadosh Ẓur Israel had been founded in the Dutch period was recognized as a "national historical patrimony" by Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional – Iphan, a federal agency, and a memorial-museum was opened. Together with the old "Rua dos Judeus" the memorial figures in the tourist tours of the city of Recife Dinner on your own this evening.     (B.)
