JEWISH HERITAGE JOURNEY OF MALTA
9 Days / 7 Nights
Malta, due to its strategic positioning in the Mediterranean has had her share of power struggles over thousands of years, she has temples that pre-date the pyramids at Giza and Stonehenge, has some of the clearest waters in the world, and boasts a capital city that is a baroque masterpiece. Like Croatia of 20 years ago, Malta has emerged as a newly discovered travel destination for the cultural enthusiast who offers travelers a rare opportunity to see a well preserved historical masterpiece and an exciting present day culture. One of Malta’s most illustrious periods was in the Middle Ages, before the Edict of Expulsion in 1492, where some 500 Jews lived in Malta and another 350 on Gozo. Within and outside the walls of Mdina, Malta’s capital at that time, you'll learn how Jewish people lived and prospered side by side with their Christian neighbors. Learn about the present day culture on the islands and the main families that populate the small community of approximatly 200 people.
